Alabaster shabti

Alabaster shabti

An hand-carved alabaster shabti (or ushabti) with a row of hieroglyphs in black, this piece has been previously broken and repaired (see photos). A shabti was a funerary figurine used in ancient Egyptian religion. Shabtis were placed in tombs among the grave goods and were intended to act as servants or minions for the deceased, should they be called upon to do manual labor in the afterlife.
